VB with Kids is a local family guide to Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads, run by a Virginia Beach family. We keep this site simple: we only ask for information when you choose to give it, we only use it for the reason you gave it, and we never sell it.
What we collect and why
You can browse the whole site without telling us anything about yourself. We only collect information when you fill out a form:
- Newsletter sign-up: your email address and, if you share it, your first name. We use it to send our weekly roundup.
- Submit an Event: your name and email, plus the event details. We use your contact info only if we have a question about your event. It's never published, and we won't add you to our newsletter unless you sign up for it yourself.
- Suggest a Spot or List Your Business: your name and email (and phone, for businesses), plus details about the place. We use it to review your suggestion and, for businesses, to follow up about your listing or any options you asked about. Your contact info is never published, and we won't add you to our newsletter unless you sign up for it yourself.
- Work With Us: your name, business name, email and message, so we can reply. We won't add you to our newsletter unless you sign up for it yourself.
Event and place details you submit (like the name of the location, its address and description) may be published on the site if we approve them. Your personal contact info is not.
Your location
The "Near me" button on our map asks your browser for your location so it can sort places by distance. That happens on your device. We don't store your location or send it to our servers, and you can say no.
Services we use
A few trusted services help run the site, and they may receive basic technical information (like your IP address and browser type) when you visit:
- Floot hosts the website, stores form submissions and sends us email alerts.
- OpenStreetMap provides the map images on our Places page.
- Instagram and TikTok power the videos embedded on some map cards. If you play one, those companies may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.
- Floot also sends our newsletter and stores subscriber emails.
We don't sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers.
Cookies and similar storage
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies. The site may store small settings in your browser so it works properly. Embedded videos from Instagram and TikTok may use their own cookies.
Sponsored content
Some listings, guide spots and features are paid placements. They are always labeled "Sponsored." See How we work with brands for details.
Children's privacy
VB with Kids is written for parents and caregivers. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter anytime using the link at the bottom of every email.
- Ask us to see, correct or delete the information you've sent us by emailing vbwithkids@gmail.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
How long we keep information
We keep form submissions as long as we need them to review and follow up, and newsletter emails until you unsubscribe. You can ask us to delete your information sooner.
Keeping information safe
We use reputable services and limit access to submissions to the site owner. No website can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you share.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above.
